Pastoral Care

It is important to notify Fr. David and the ECOR prayer line when visits and other services are requested.  We can only help if you keep us informed of your prayer and visit needs.  One encyclopedia’s definition of Pastoral Care is “ a term applied where Christians offer help and caring to others in their church or wider community. Pastoral care can be listening, supporting, encouraging and befriending.”  Too often we think of pastoral care as just visiting the home bound or the ill and infirm. We regularly visit folks in nursing facilities, in hospitals or in their homes. We sometimes fail to realize that everyone is in need of pastoral care at one time or another.  When you feel the need for prayer, us know and clergy or one of the parish pastoral care intercessors will be glad to spend time with you; together seeking God's presence and grace to meet your situation.

As loving and caring Christians, we should all keep our “antennae” out to sense the need for pastoral care in others. We encourage and invite you to notify the church office when you or a member of your family is hospitalized, rehabbing at home or in a facility, or just in need of some pastoral conversation. Please contact the church using the prayer request category under “Faith” on the website information line at the top of the page, or calling the office and leaving a message at 816-228-4220.

When Do We Help?

Some events where pastoral care is offered include:

  • The birth of a child

  • A hospitalization or illness

  • A death in the family

  • Transportation

  • Other emergency

If you have such an event or emergency, please call the church office at 816-228-4220 or select  Contact Us.  The church office will inform the priest of the situation, as well as the Pastoral Care Committee.  Someone will follow up with you to talk with you and determine your needs and how we as a community can best help.

What Can We Do?

We can provide meals for you and your family for up to six weeks. Do you need some encouragement? Let us know and we’ll visit you and send you cards and letters of encouragement. We can also send a Lay Eucharistic Minister to you to administer the Sacrament of Holy Eucharist so that you continue to participate in our church life.

Are you interested in helping other parishioners in this way?  Please contact the church office at 816-228-4220 or select Contact Us.

Caring through Prayer

Church of the Resurrection offers several communal ways to pray for others:

1.  You may join Daughters of the King, a spiritual sisterhood of women dedicated to a life of prayer, service and evangelism. All DoK members pray daily for our members, friends, and family and for the world at large. Contact Jan Pahlas to add a name to the Daughters prayer list.

2.  Prayers of the People are offered during Sunday services as requested by parishioners for those inside and outside Resurrection parish.  Contact the church office (816-228-4220) to have names added to the Prayers of the People list.

3. A prayer chain of parishioners offers up prayers daily. Send an e-mail to ECORPrayers@att.net to request prayers for the special needs of parishioners, family, and friends.

4. Use the prayer site of Forward Movement including the daily readings of Forward Day-by-Day.

In the Event of Death

When a loved one dies, contact the Rector, The Rev. David Lynch, to make arrangements for a funeral or memorial service.
