Music

Music at Resurrection
Music is one of the most important ministries at Resurrection.  It is through music we worship our heavenly Father and in doing this, we bring ourselves to the holy mysteries of our faith that unites us all.  We worship God through our singing of hymns, found in The Hymnal 1982 and the use of contemporary hymns that include the use of Taize Chants.

Resurrection Choir
The adult choir at Resurrection sings for the principal Sunday morning ser
vice at 10:30 AM.  The choir also takes part in all principal feast days, such as Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Holy Week and Easter Services.  During the summer months beginning the Sunday after the Day of Pentecost, the music program of the church assumes a relaxed mode in that local musical groups and ensembles located in the Kansas City area are invited to join in our service and share their musical talents.  The choir continues its role in leading the sung portions of the service, but in place of an offertory anthem, members of the choir join together in singing duets, trios.  Rehearsal is held on Wednesday evening beginning at 7:00 PM to 8:30PM and again on Sunday morning from 9:30 AM to 10:00AM.  The choir does not rehearse on Wednesday evenings during the summer months.  The personnel of the choir are volunteers who are talented, dedicated and enthusiastic people who give of their time on a consistent basis.  If you are interested in joining our choir family, contact Vaughn Scarcliff.

Rite I and Rite II used at the Worship Services

Sunday 8:00 AM  Holy Eucharist

This service that is held each Sunday morning uses Rite I liturgy.  Rite I liturgies in the Episcopal Church is based on the old English language form.  At present time, the service is spoken and has a contemplative nature where worshipers can participate through spoken responses and prayers.  There is no music at this service.

Sunday 10:30 AM Choral Eucharist
This service is the most festive of the celebratory services held each Sunday with worshipers joining in the singing of hymns, sung responses and prayers.  It is also the largest gathering and reflects the diversity of the church family.  Rite II is the liturgy that is used at this service.  Rite II liturgies differ from Rite I in that the Rite II services date from the current Book of Common Prayer revised in the 1970’s while Rite I dates back to the 1600’s.  Rite II uses wording that is in contemporary or every day English.  The choir leads the sung portions of the service which include hymns, a psalm and an offertory anthem.
